Don't put off buying hearing aids
Hearing aids significantly improve speech comprehension in many everyday situations. That’s why you shouldn’t wait too long if you’ve been diagnosed with hearing loss.
According to a recent study, 90 percent of hearing aid users are satisfied with their hearing aids and give them high marks. The results also show that addressing hearing loss as early as possible pays off: Participants who reported having had hearing loss for less than two years rated acoustically challenging situations—such as shopping—more favorably than survey participants who had been living with hearing loss for more than six years. “So the longer you wait to address your hearing loss, the more difficult it becomes to understand speech in noisy situations—even with hearing aids,” explains Prof. Hoppe, head of the Audiology Department at the ENT Clinic of the University Hospital of Erlangen. That’s why you shouldn’t put off buying hearing aids if you’ve been diagnosed with hearing loss.
For the study, in which approximately 300 hearing aid specialty stores participated, 600 hearing aid users were surveyed about their experiences with their hearing aids. The participants gave an average grade of 2.1 on a school grading scale from one to six.
