Numerous events for World Hearing Day 2017

3,500 partners participated in the WHO Action Day in Germany, offering information and educational resources on the topic of hearing.

Under the slogan “Hearing: The Sense of Your Life,” approximately 3,500 partners in Germany took part in this year’s World Hearing Day. This nearly doubled last year’s number of participants. This, along with the further increase in media attention, demonstrates how important good hearing and the treatment of hearing loss are. With this annual global awareness day on March 3, the World Health Organization (WHO) draws attention to the sense of hearing and helps break the taboo surrounding hearing problems. Numerous hearing care professionals, ENT specialists, companies, and health insurance providers once again participated this year with campaigns, information, and educational initiatives.

For example, the company physicians at the energy company Vattenfall used World Hearing Day to educate a total of 4,500 employees at locations in Hamburg and Berlin about the importance of hearing through an information campaign on the intranet, as well as posters and brochures. On March 3, employees were able to have their hearing tested at the company or at participating hearing care providers in the area. The Barmer health insurance company also took advantage of the awareness day and issued a press release to introduce a preventive initiative for good hearing. These and other high-profile campaigns contributed to widespread media coverage of World Hearing Day: The coverage reached over 24 million readers in online and print media and, with 55 radio segments, more than six million listeners.
