How Alcohol Combined with Noise Can Damage Our Hearing

It’s not just the liver that’s at risk from excessive alcohol consumption—our ears can also be severely affected if we drink too much too often. A British study has confirmed this.

Both short-term and long-term consequences are possible

Particularly alarming: Older participants, especially those who had previously consumed alcohol regularly and in large quantities, were particularly affected by this phenomenon. All 30 participants in the study were diagnosed with temporary hearing loss. The scientists’ further hypothesis—that alcohol can also impair hearing in the long term—has not yet been sufficiently substantiated by scientific evidence.
