Study by the Fördergemeinschaft Gutes Hören
Music in your ears, noise in the workplace, or attending loud concerts can cause hearing loss in people of all ages. In this article, you’ll find the latest statistics on the hearing ability of Germans.
The Fördergemeinschaft Gutes Hören (FGH) recently published new figures on the hearing ability of Germans. During its “Hearing Tour” from March through November of last year, which took it through 321 German cities, the hearing of 25,862 interested participants of all age groups was tested.
The FGH’s findings show that hearing problems occur at every age. Even among young people under 20, more than one in ten of those tested was found to have mild to significant hearing loss. This figure rises to 27 percent among participants aged 21 to 40.Among those aged 41 to 60, more than half (58 percent) are already affected by hearing loss. For test subjects over 60, it was found that only 14 percent do not have hearing loss. Another striking finding in this group is the difference in hearing between the sexes. While 17 percent of women still have good hearing, only 11 percent of men do.

Everyday noise, which today affects virtually every age group at school or at work, can therefore cause hearing loss at any age. Prevention is therefore essential, because the earlier hearing loss is detected, the more effectively it can be treated. That’s why hearing care professionals offer free hearing tests.
