BVHI Warns Against Scams Involving Alleged Miracle Cures for Hearing Loss
People are being duped by so-called miracle cures for hearing loss and lured into subscription scams. The BVHI warns against these scams on the Internet.
Put a few drops of “Nutresin Herbapure Ear” in your ear every day, and after 28 days, the hair cells will have regenerated to such an extent that even people who were nearly deaf will be able to hear again. By restoring the damaged hair cells, the use of hearing aids becomes unnecessary. So claims the distributor on its website. TheGerman Hearing Aid Industry Association (BVHI) can only warn against this and other so-called miracle cures for hearing loss. This is because the distributors deliberately use dubious advertising methods to deceive consumers.
In the fine print, the “miracle cure” turns out to be a skin care oil
The claims on the website advertising “Nutresin” are misleading. The scientist listed, Prof. Utri Neuer—who is supposedly nominated for the Nobel Prize for his invention—does not exist. References and customer reviews are fabricated. There is no evidence or sources regarding the product, nor is there any information on possible side effects or usage. Furthermore, test purchases show that buyers not only acquire the product but are automatically enrolled in a “discount club”—which is based in the Comoros. Only in the fine print on the packaging is it acknowledged that the product is a care oil that is ineffective against hearing loss.
Medicine and audiology are being discredited
“The distributor uses misleading—and therefore illegal—advertising methods to deceive consumers,” comments Dr. Stefan Zimmer, CEO of the BVHI. Self-treatment with so-called miracle cures without consulting a doctor can delay or even prevent urgently needed therapies. False promises of a cure are used to deliberately discourage people with hearing loss from seeking hearing care.
“Both the cause and the appropriate forms of treatment for hearing loss must be determined on a case-by-case basis. The treating ENT physician determines the appropriate form of treatment following a thorough examination. If a hearing aid is prescribed, the hearing care professional is the next point of contact. You can find a qualified hearing care professional near you using our online search,” Dr. Zimmer emphasizes.
